🔗 Share this article The network's Top New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons. Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit. A Two-Season Greenlight On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters. "I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer." A President's Endorsement In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal. "All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Different Kind of Comedy When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their daily lives. At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises. “We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.” The Path Forward Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan. The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
