The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation other than George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.

Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
