Igor Jesus found the net on two occasions as Nottingham Forest rounded off the league phase of the Europa League with a comfortable win against Ferencvaros at the home stadium.

The hosts had already secured a berth in the next qualifying round and entered this game with a slim possibility of making the top eight, although they required several results to go their way.

That did not happen but this confident performance will give the supporters confidence that their team can come through the home-and-away tie to advance to the round of sixteen.

A Ferencvaros midfielder did hit the post with a headed effort inside the first 10 minutes for the away team – who are managed by former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane – but it was dominantly the home side from then on.

Forest broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Ryan Yates' cross was turned into his own net by the defender and doubled the lead shortly after – Jesus squeezing a shot in at the far post for his tenth strike of the season.

Jesus' eleventh goal came early in the second half when he made a perfectly-timed run to break clear of the backline and then drive an effort beyond the shot-stopper.

The third strike ended Ferencvaros' hopes of mounting a recovery and instead Forest scored again when the impressive McAtee scored from a spot-kick after a foul by the unfortunate Bence Otvos inside the box on Dan Ndoye.

The Europa League qualifying round draw is scheduled on the final Friday of January (midday UK time), where Nottingham Forest might face either Fenerbahce or the Greek club.

"It's more than the result, there was that feel about it. I want these guys to do well as a unit, the entire team," said manager Sean Dyche.

"This is another stride forward, but it is a positive step."

Forest Analysis: Striker Shines as New Signing Watches On

Igor Jesus has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest in European competition this season with half of his 11 goals coming in the tournament.

This double also means he has scored three goals in his last two games and the prospect of a challenge for his place in attack could be providing motivation.

Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca was recently brought in temporarily and he was observing this game from the stands.

This development may well have been on Jesus' thoughts as he was impressive against Ferencvaros, delivering two excellent goals and overall being a menace to the opposition backline with his pace and movement.

The forward was not alone in impressing, with McAtee turning in his best performance in a Nottingham Forest shirt since signing from Manchester City in the previous transfer window, while the Swiss international also impressed.

Such positive showings will give Forest some fresh hope as they turn their attention to pulling further away from the bottom three when they welcome their London rivals on Sunday.

"All you can ask for is a response," added Dyche.

"I've never questioned their work ethic or their dedication or integrity. It is just go and show your quality.

"McAtee was excellent and Dan was super sharp. Jesus got another couple and these are positive indicators."
