Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Legal authorities have announced that a ex- doctor has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Grave Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
