A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.

A Possibility for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Recording Origins and Featured Artists

The song was recorded in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.

The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The track blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.

The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The situation in the region was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.

“In that context, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”

The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from later in the month.
